BROWSING LATEST ADDITIONS

In order to view newly added titles relating to a particular period and subject area, you can either construct your own search or use one of the links below. To construct your own search, go to the Search menu, select latest additions only from Step 1, and then click on the Full search button under Step 2. Then, on the full search form:

  • Use the Restrict by period covered fields to specify the earliest and latest dates in which you are interested. You can also select Close matches only to exclude from you search items covering very long periods.

  • Use the Subject classification field to identify an area of interest; to see a list of subject areas broadly corresponding to the thematic sub-sections formerly used in the printed Annual Bibliographies, you can click on the Index button next to the Subject classification field (without typing any text into the field) – in the resulting list, use the arrow button next to the subject of your choice to enter it into the search form. (If you wish to search simultaneously for more than one subject area, you must use the Search builder, which enables you to enter multiple subject classification fields and link them with a Boolean OR.)

  • As an alternative to using the Subject classification field, or in addition to it, you can specify a geographical area in the Place index field.

  • You can also use Restrict by date of publication to specify dates of publication if you want to confine your search to recent publications, omitting earlier publications that have been included in this update because they were missed from previous editions.

  • You cannot search using only the Restrict by period covered field or only the Restrict by date of publication field, or using only these two fields in combination, because these searches work by filtering results from other criteria. You must specify additional search criteria when you use these fields.

Alternatively, click on one of the links below to view a list (sorted by author) of newly added titles relating to the periods which correspond to the sections previously used in the printed Annual Bibliography. Records covering long periods are excluded from these lists (except for the Welsh, Scottish, Irish, and Imperial and Commonweath lists). Please note also that the variations in the numbers of records available partly reflect the different timetables to which our editors work; any sections which are under-represented here should be more fully represented in future updates.

New material relating specifically to Ireland is now being handled by the Irish History Online project; the current update includes 2749 new records compiled by Irish History Online. Other new records in this update that relate to Ireland have been compiled by the Royal Historical Society team, and mostly relate to Anglo-Irish relations, or to Britain and Ireland as a whole.

Since the end of 2006, new material relating specifically to Scotland has been handled by teams working under the auspices of the Scottish Historical Review Trust, initially at Stirling University, but at St Andrews University from late 2008.

Some of the links may be rather slow; please be patient.
